First and Foremost, you must Update Your Virus Scan files OFTEN.
More than likely, a virus scan such as McAfee or Norton (the top rated ones) was installed on your PC. If you have them, You MUST Still Update Them REGULARLY. Every month at the least. Every 2 to 3 weeks, even better. New virus' come out daily. Most won't "hurt you", if detected immediately by YOUR virus scan.

If you don't have one, get one. If you are broke, use the "trial" offers one at a time, until they expire. You need this protection!!!

If you are not aware of it, most virus' come to us in E-Mail.
Keeping your E-Mail "clean" helps to that end. Please learn how to properly Forward and Send E-Mails to multiple people and keep your friends and family protected. This is a "joint effort". The MORE People that learn the "right" way, the less problem we will All have.

Attachements will carry a virus (usually in e-mails forwarded without using "Good Mail Sending Habits").
Some general exceptions are:

.jpg, .gif, .bmp -- Picture Attachements
.mid, .wav. .mpg -- Sound or Animations
.txt, .html, .htm --Are text files or web pages
These are not generally sent to give you a virus. They can contain a virus, if sent from an infected PC. But in general, these will be just what they seem to be. {smiles}

Please, Please, learn the steps to "Forward" and "Send" E-mail to multiple people, especially.

Important: Sending E-Mail

Secondly, you don't want "people" knowing Your Business by getting info from Your PC about you.
I recommend ZoneAlarm and either OptOut or AdAware (Links Below). They work together keeping "spyware", hackers, and just companies wanting your information to "sell" you stuff, from getting your personal information. OptOut has a column and a link to ZoneAlarm.

They are Free programs to download. So, Download and install them: then let them do their thing.
You have no idea what seemingly harmless little things gather info about you. Like "CometCursor", to name one. Aren't they cute? Yep! But not cute enough for me to let every Tom, Dick or Mary to get into "my business".
Know what I mean? {smiles} If they want to know about me, just ask. I have nothing to hide, but I sure don't like anyone "spying" on me, so to speak.

And I sure don't want someone breaking in on my pc. Which is what ZoneAlarm protects you from: Keeps Out "Unwanted" Guests.
